How to Optimize Your LinkedIn Profile

Tips to update your LinkedIn profile.  

With over 467 million members, LinkedIn is a widely used social network for professionals to showcase their skills. It’s also a great opportunity for prospecting and marketing in some industries. LinkedIn can be a useful tool for insurance agents and agencies, especially if the name of the agency is the name of the individual. To help your profile look more professional, complete, and attract viewers, check out these tips.

Make sure it’s complete! Ensure that every section of your profile has been completed and that there are no blank spaces or obvious gaps. Your LinkedIn profile is your online resume, so make it look good and fill in all the necessary information. For a great status, you need:

  • To add your industry and location
  • A current position
  • Two past positions
  • Your education information
  • A minimum of three skills
  • At least 50 connections.

Use a professional profile picture. A picture from the work Christmas party? A selfie? One from ten years ago? These photos won’t do. You need your profile picture to be professional and recent. Using your company logo, a picture of you and your furry friend, or a selfie could damage your personal brand.

Create your vanity URL. When you first create your profile, the default URL you get won’t exactly roll off the tongue. Instead, you can create your own URL and add in your brand’s name or your personal name. This URL is much friendlier from an SEO point of view.

Get written recommendations. It’s important to have some good words spoken about you. Recommendations and reviews can help to improve your brand and encourage trust in your agency.

Add skills and get endorsements. People like to instantly know what you’re good at. Endorsements are one-click acknowledgments from your network showing that you are being recognized for a certain skill. The more endorsements you have for a specific skill, the more likely it will come up in the search results when someone is looking for that skill.
