Mindset Matters

One of the most meaningful authors I have ever studied is Earl Nightengale (The Strangest Secret and many more). The greatest gift received from Nightengale was the added “mindset shift”.

One of many meaningful Nightengale messages- “People who get on in this world are those who look for circumstances they want and if they can’t find them, make them.” What are you doing to control your future?

What is a mindset?

From Wikipedia (condensed): “A set of assumptions, methods or notations which is so established that it creates a powerful incentive to adopt or accept prior behaviors, choices, or tools. And it is often difficult to counteract its effects upon analysis and decision making processes.”

Wow. I think we can agree our mindset can be a formidable friend … or foe!

If our fixed assumptions lead us toward the achievement of productive goals then our mindset is a friend, indeed.

However, all too often our mindset keeps us trapped.

And, by definition, we’re likely not even aware that we’re being held back by the hidden forces of our mindset!

For example, most agency owners have a “fire-killing mindset.”

This mindset is adopted by every team member ever hired and becomes the agency’s culture. And the mantra becomes “that’s just the way things are.”

And we wonder where all the chaos comes from!

The great news is you CAN change your mindset.

• You can keep the parts that will continue to take you toward your goals.
• You can drop those parts that are holding you back.
• And you can add new, productive ideas to your mindset.

And that’s exactly what you must do if you are to be successful at leading your agency and realizing your personal freedom.

Sure, you can enjoy limited success for a short time without a change in mindset. You can force some new ideas and tools into place and realize their benefits.

But without the necessary shift in mindset old behaviors, old choices and old tools will overrun your agency once again, plunging it back into chaos.

That’s just what a mindset does, that’s what a culture does.

If you are to achieve permanent success as a top-notch agency, you and your team must adopt new behaviors, make new choices, and utilize new tools.

And this only has a chance of long-term success with the correct change in mindset … a change to an Unstoppable Mindset.
